What it is
Pollen is a fine yellowish powder released by male flowers. Each grain carries half of the father's genes. In nature the wind carries it for kilometers.
How it's collected
When the male's sacs start to open, cut the branch and set it on a piece of paper or glass, in a spot with no drafts: in a day or two the pollen falls on its own. Sift it to remove debris and store it in a small dry jar.
How it's stored
Humidity and heat kill it. In the fridge, dry, it lasts a few weeks; mixed with flour and in the freezer, months. Use it as fresh as possible.
How it's pollinated
With a brush, dab a little pollen on the female's white pistils, best at 2 or 3 weeks into flowering. You can pollinate just one branch (with a bag around it) and leave the rest seedless. Do it far from the other plants: a single loose grain pollinates them.
▲ Pros
- You pick the father and the timing
▼ Cons
- It expires
🎮 Practice it in UnderGrow
It's collected from a male (10 doses) or from a female sprayed with silver (3 doses), and lasts 60 days (60 real h). It's used in the breeding room, where pollen can't escape, on a female in flowering (up to a week before harvest).
