The cross

What it is

Pollinating a female of one strain with pollen from another plant. The seeds that come out are children of both: they mix genes from the mother and the father. Almost every strain that exists today was born this way, by crossing and selecting for years.

What happens in the plant

The pollinated female keeps flowering, but puts her energy into making seeds instead of resin: the buds yield less and are worth less. Seeds take 3 to 6 weeks to ripen: they're ready when they turn dark brown, hard and striped, and the capsule covering them opens.

How parents are chosen

You look for each parent to bring something: one the yield, another the aroma, another the speed or resistance. The mother is well known (you already grew her); the male is harder to judge because he gives no buds: you look at his vigor, his shape, his smell when you rub the stem and how his daughters turn out.

▲ Pros

  • You create your own strain

▼ Cons

  • That harvest gives 25 % fewer grams and is worth less

🎮 Practice it in UnderGrow

You pollinate in the breeding room (breed › pollinate). That female is harvested normally: she gives less flower, is worth less and also gives seeds of the cross. The seeds need 21 days (21 real h) from when you pollinate to ripen: if you harvest earlier, you get fewer.
