What it is
Trimming means removing the leaves that surround the bud: the big ones (fan leaves) and the little ones that grow out of the bud ("sugar leaves", covered in resin). In wet trimming it is done right after cutting the plant, when everything is fresh, and then the buds dry loose on nets or hanging from small branches.
Pros
Fresh leaves are firm and cut easily. With no leaves around it, the bud dries more evenly and faster, with less trapped moisture: less risk of mold. The buds end up neat, with good looks.
Downsides
It is sticky: fresh resin sticks to the scissors and your fingers (you use gloves and alcohol to clean up). You have to do it all on harvest day. And since it dries faster, it can lose some aroma if the room is dry or hot.
Good to know
The sugar leaves you remove are not thrown out: they have resin and are saved to make extracts or butter.
▲ Pros
- Dries more evenly with less mold risk
- Neater buds
▼ Cons
- Dries faster: some aroma is lost
- Must be done now, with a sticky plant
🎮 Practice it in UnderGrow
You choose it at harvest. It dries a bit faster and with half the mold risk of hanging the whole plant, but with slightly less aroma.
