Hang whole (dry trimming)

What it is

The whole plant or individual branches are cut, only the big leaves are removed, and it is hung upside down to dry with the small leaves still on. The fine trim is done later, when it is already dry.

Pros

The small leaves protect the bud and make it dry more slowly. Slow drying preserves more terpenes: it comes out with more aroma and better flavor. Also, there is a lot less work on harvest day, and dry resin sticks less to the scissors.

Downsides

If the room is humid, the leaves trap moisture around the bud and the mold risk goes way up. Dry leaves crumble when trimming, and the buds end up a little less neat.

When it makes sense

In dry places or with a dehumidifier, and when aroma is the priority. In humid places, wet trimming is better.

▲ Pros

  • Slow drying: more aroma and flavor
  • Less work today

▼ Cons

  • More mold risk if it's humid
  • Less neat buds

🎮 Practice it in UnderGrow

You choose it at harvest. It dries slower and with more aroma and flavor, but the mold risk while drying is double if the air is humid.
