What it is

A place's climate is how the weather behaves through the year: how hot it gets in summer and how cold in winter, how much it rains, how humid the air is and how many hours of sun there are. Growing in misiones is not the same as in mendoza or in tierra del fuego.

The cold

Where summer is short and cool (patagonia, tierra del fuego), the outdoor season isn't long enough: a photoperiod flowers at the end of summer and the frosts catch it before it ripens. There you grow indoors, or outdoors with autoflowers sown in the middle of summer. The upside: in the cold the bugs barely show up.

The dry

Where it hardly rains (cuyo and northern patagonia) mold barely exists, but you have to water a lot, days are hot and nights are cold, and spider mites and thrips feel right at home. In mendoza, on top of that, it hails often in summer: that is why the vineyards live under nets.

The humid

Where it rains a lot and it is hot (misiones, corrientes, the litoral) plants grow super fast and the rain waters them, but humidity is the enemy of flowering: botrytis and powdery mildew. Growers pick strains that resist fungi, defoliate so the air flows and check the buds after every rain.

The sun and latitude

The further from the equator, the longer the summer days: in ushuaia they go past 17 hours of light and in misiones they don't reach 14. With shorter days photoperiods flower earlier and stay smaller; near the equator they flower almost as soon as they grow.

Indoors

The house is heated and changes much less than outdoors, but you still notice it: in a cold place the room is cooler in winter (there the heater really helps), in a hot one you have to get the heat out (exhaust fan or ac) and in a humid one the dehumidifier is key in flowering.

🎮 Practice it in UnderGrow

Every province in the world has its climate, taken from the real averages (the list, country by country, is in rules › the climate of each province). Each day's weather is the same for everyone who lives there: if it hails in mendoza, it hails for everyone. The old man warns you if an outdoor plant won't make it before the frosts. The numbers for each province are in rules › the climate of each province. Moving changes your climate.
